Capitol Theater
Windham, CT 6226
The Capitol Theater was established in 1926 and stayed operating until 1973, then standing empty for about 30 years until it was renovated in 2002. The story that most believe is the reason why the theater is haunted, is about the 1930s actress that was accidentally shot in the balcony. Her lover was the shooter and was aiming for his rival, her other lover. Another story told here is that a live performance of a sword-fight went awry and one of the actors was accidentally stabbed to death. Although no record of these events has been found, folks say the deaths resulted in the theater’s hauntings: Witnesses have seen apparitions in the balcony and dressing rooms and heard unexplained voices and footsteps as well as the sound of a baby crying.

My mother and father were in the balcony one evening watching a movie that was playing in the late 1940's. My mother said the theater was full including the balcony. She explained that all of a sudden they heard loud footsteps moving fast down the aisle in the balcony and then saw a man running grabbed onto the balcony railing and threw himself over. She said a number of people in the balcony saw it and screamed and when they looked over the railing, no one was disturbed below and no sign of the man was anywhere.
