This apartment building that was once an inn, is rumored to be haunted by Elizabeth (Betsy) Shaw. Betsy became pregnant while unmarried in 1744 and the people in town taunted her for it, even speculating that her own father was the father of her baby. After it was born, the baby disappeared and showed up dead near a cliff. Betsy's father turned her in for the killing, some say he did this to take the blame away from himself. She was found guilty by an all-male jury and was hanged. Her spirit has been seen walking along the road and at the former location of the Old Windham Inn.
